Armando Iannucci, the writer-director behind The Death of Stalin and Veep, is preparing a conspiracy thriller starring James McAvoy, Alicia Vikander and Taron Egerton.

The untitled project is heading to the American Film Market, with FilmNation and UTA handling sales, according to Deadline’s 29 October report. Iannucci will write and direct, while his longtime collaborator Kevin Loader produces.

For a filmmaker who has made careers, governments and entire political systems look spectacularly unstable, a conspiracy thriller feels like a natural place to find trouble. Plot details are still being kept quiet, so there is no indication yet of who the three actors will play.

It will be the first time McAvoy, Vikander and Egerton have worked with Iannucci. The cast brings together the star of Split and Atonement, the Oscar-winning actress from The Danish Girl, and Rocketman’s Elton John.

Loader’s collaborations with Iannucci include In the Loop, The Death of Stalin and The Personal History of David Copperfield, as well as the space-set comedy Avenue 5. FilmNation also worked with the director and producer on David Copperfield.
