How Wētā turned Alexander Skarsgård into Wicker’s handmade husband

Alexander Skarsgård’s latest romantic role comes with a woven face and harakeke eyelashes. Wētā Workshop’s artists have explained to RNZ how they built the husband in the romantic fable Wicker, ahead of its New Zealand cinema release on 5 November. Olivia Colman plays a fisherwoman who commissions a partner from a basketmaker, upsetting the village’s social order. The workshop created a practical suit and facial prosthetics that let Skarsgård perform beneath the weave. Most shots of the character use no CGI, although small effects help sell the illusion that he is hollow.
