HBO has renewed Sharon Horgan’s comedy Youth for a second season, a day after its first-season finale aired in the US. The Bad Sisters creator stars as Alex, a literary agent trying to rebuild her love life after divorce.
Alex is 50 and looking for sex and love while caring for her ailing parents and trying to help her son through an awkward start to college. At work, she has writers to look after and her own career to keep on track.
“I’m so happy to get another opportunity to live out my emotional and biological crises on HBO,” Horgan said in a statement.
The first season’s cast includes Rupert Friend, Sharlene Whyte as Alex’s boss, Sam, and Aran Murphy as her son, Ruari. Robbie Gee plays Frank, Sam’s husband.
HBO says Youth ranks among its top five comedy launches globally.
Horgan created, writes and stars in the Merman-produced series. The new order continues her relationship with HBO seven years after Divorce ended its three-season run. All eight episodes of Youth’s first season are streaming on HBO Max in the US.
