Harry Bosch is trading the seasoned detective’s authority for a rookie’s uniform. MGM+ has unveiled the first look at Bosch: Start of Watch, the crime-drama prequel starring Cameron Monaghan, and set a 10 January 2027 premiere in the United States, United Kingdom and Ireland.

The Shameless and Gotham actor plays a 26-year-old Bosch entering the Los Angeles Police Department after serving in the Persian Gulf War. Omari Hardwick plays his training officer, Eli Bridges. Monaghan takes over the character Titus Welliver played for more than a decade.

Set in 1992, the eight-part series draws the young officer into a high-profile heist and a web of corruption. Michael Connelly’s familiar detective is still finding his feet, and his loyalty to the badge is about to get an early test.

Monaghan told Entertainment Weekly the rookie years were “unexplored territory”. The production filmed in Los Angeles, with the city’s early-1990s tensions central to the story rather than merely period decoration.

MGM+ will launch two episodes together, followed by weekly instalments through 21 February. For newcomers, no previous case files are required.
