Criminal Minds: Evolution will end with its upcoming 20th season, bringing the long-running FBI drama’s Paramount+ revival to a close in 2027, Variety reports.

The final season will be the fifth under the Evolution banner, following 15 seasons on CBS. Paramount+ brought the series back in 2022, continuing the story of the FBI’s Behavioural Analysis Unit and its team of criminal profilers.

Showrunner Erica Messer acknowledged the unexpected ending in a statement, thanking the cast, crew and viewers who have supported the series across two decades.

Deadline reports that filming finished earlier this autumn, before the cancellation decision. The season was not produced as a planned farewell.

Joe Mantegna, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, RJ Hatanaka, Adam Rodriguez and Paget Brewster are among the returning cast. The series is produced by 20th Television and CBS Studios.

Season 19 aired between May and July this year. The final run is due in 2027, with its premiere date still to be announced.
