Jeremy Renner and Josh Brolin will star in A Speck in the Sea, a survival thriller from The White Helmets director Orlando von Einsiedel.

For Montauk lobster fisherman John Aldridge, a night aboard the Anna Mary became a fight to stay alive when he went overboard in the Atlantic. His fishing partner, Anthony Sosinski, was asleep below deck.

The search brought together Sosinski, the two men’s families, local fishermen and Coast Guard crews across three states. Aldridge survived, and the two friends later recounted the ordeal in their joint memoir, A Speck in the Sea: A Story of Survival and Rescue, published in 2017.

Von Einsiedel previously explored real-life rescue work in his Oscar-winning short documentary The White Helmets, about Syrian volunteers saving civilians during the war.

Renner and Brolin previously appeared together in Rian Johnson’s ensemble mystery Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.
