Jessica Chastain’s sinister double took first place at the US and Canadian box office. Other Mommy opened to an estimated US$27.5 million over 9–11 October, according to Sunday studio estimates.
The horror film played in 3,365 cinemas and reached approximately US$45.2 million worldwide. Its international opening included US$2.6 million in the UK and Ireland and US$1.1 million in Australia, giving the debut a wider footprint than its North American lead alone.
Chastain plays both a mother and the unnerving entity that resembles her. Arabella Olivia Clark is Bela, the girl whose relationship with that presence puts her family in danger. Rob Savage directs the adaptation of Josh Malerman’s Incidents Around the House, with Jay Duplass also starring.
Its D+ CinemaScore pointed to a cooler audience response than the opening grosses might suggest.
