Ben Foster and Manny Jacinto have a western problem that cannot be solved with another gunfight: they have run out of bullets. Their comedy The Stalemate is heading to international buyers at the American Film Market as it prepares for its world premiere in Austin.
Myriad Pictures has acquired international sales rights to the film, ScreenDaily reported on 28 October. Range Media is handling US sales. Foster, known for Hell or High Water, plays a sheriff chasing a robber played by The Good Place’s Jacinto. Stranded far from town, the two adversaries must negotiate their way out of a pursuit neither wants to abandon.
The ensemble also includes Fiona Shaw, Tony Hale, Shea Whigham and Anthony Carrigan. Nicholas Arioli wrote and directed the film, making his feature debut after the animated short Coin Operated.
Austin Film Festival has scheduled the 91-minute film’s world premiere for 30 October at the State Theatre. Phiphen’s Molly Conners and Amanda Bowers produced alongside Andrew Bosworth and Cari Tuna.
Arioli describes the comedy as exploring what happens “when nobody can win but nobody wants to give up”. That sounds less like a clean getaway than the beginning of a very long argument.
