Toni Collette is filming a new Apple TV comedy-drama in Sydney, playing a child-welfare worker whose ability to help other families is tested by upheaval in her own.

Lenni casts the Hereditary star as a divorced mother of two dealing with a family tragedy and a demanding new case. The series adapts Pernille, the Norwegian show created by Henriette Steenstrup.

Sarah Scheller, whose credits include The Letdown and Strife, is adapting the series. Dearbhla Walsh, a director of Bad Sisters, directs.

Ciarán Hinds, Celeste Barber, Dan Wyllie and Wayne Blair are among the supporting cast. Collette recently starred in Netflix’s Wayward and won an Emmy for United States of Tara, another series built around a mother navigating a complicated home life.

Made Up Stories and Keshet International are producing, with Collette also an executive producer. Screen NSW’s Made in NSW Fund is supporting the Sydney shoot, and Pernille creator Steenstrup remains involved as an executive producer.
