The Walsh family is finding another home on British screens. Disney+ has acquired UK rights to The Walsh Sisters following its BBC run, in a deal announced by distributor Cineflix Rights on 26 October.

Adapted by writer and actor Stefanie Preissner from Marian Keyes’ novels, the six-part Irish comedy-drama follows five Dublin sisters whose affection for one another rarely prevents a family collision. Louisa Harland, Máiréad Tyers and Preissner are among the siblings navigating heartbreak, recovery and the expectations that come with being a Walsh.

The first season was RTÉ’s highest-rated drama in two years, according to Cineflix. The Disney+ agreement comes alongside sales to broadcasters and streaming services in Norway, Sweden, Finland, New Zealand, the Balkans and Israel. Stan is its Australian home, while Roku’s Howdy has acquired the US rights.

A second season is already in production, following September’s announcement. Based on Keyes’ The Mystery of Mercy Close and Angels, it finds Rachel testing her independence in recovery and Claire challenging the unequal demands of motherhood. Peter Coonan and Fay Ripley join the returning cast. The sisters have plenty left to argue about.
