Childhood friendships can be hard to pick up after twenty years. Especially when the friend who disappeared is an alien, and his return comes with a world-changing secret.

That is the setup for Allen, the live-action Australian family film from Bluey producer Ludo Studio. Netflix has released its full trailer ahead of a worldwide premiere on 12 November, with T.J. Power playing Petey, a Queensland man whose best mate has finally come home.

Allen’s disappearance left more than an empty seat at the table. Petey must deal with the past and do some growing up himself if the reunion is going to help save the world. The extraterrestrial may not be the only one with unfinished business.

Charlotte Nicdao, familiar to viewers of Mythic Quest, joins Power alongside Josh Helman, Emily Barclay and Benedict Hardie. Daley Pearson created the film and directs with Jeffrey Walker, whose recent work includes Apple Cider Vinegar and The Artful Dodger. Pearson co-wrote the screenplay with Sophie Miller.

Filmed across Brisbane and the Gold Coast, Allen takes Ludo’s family storytelling into live action, with Pearson drawing on the Queensland surroundings of his own childhood. It is a reunion story with considerably more at stake than an awkward catch-up.
