Fing!, Jeffrey Walker’s family fantasy starring Taika Waititi and Mia Wasikowska, is building an international rollout, with a new trailer confirming Australian cinemas for 14 January 2027.
Angel has acquired the Australian–UK co-production for a wide US theatrical release in early 2027. Transmission Films is handling cinemas in Australia and New Zealand, while UK audiences will get the film through Sky Cinema and NOW. A UK date has not been confirmed.
The film premiered in Sundance’s Family Matinee program on 24 January 2026. Programmer John Nein explained that the section’s films also face an unofficial selection committee: the programmers’ children. Fing! had won their support.
Based on David Walliams’ book, the film follows Myrtle Meek, played by Iona Bell, whose parents have made the mistake of giving her everything she wants. For her birthday, she demands a Fing, a rare and temperamental creature that her father must find. Waititi’s animal-park owner, the Viscount, wants the beast for himself.
Wasikowska and Blake Harrison play Myrtle’s exhausted parents, with Richard Roxburgh and Penelope Wilton also in the cast. Walker, whose credits include Apple Cider Vinegar and The Portable Door, directs from a screenplay by Walliams and Kevin Cecil.
Sundance’s premiere discussion explored the connection between Myrtle and the creature: beneath the tantrums, both are struggling to find where they belong. The festival discovery now has a much wider audience ahead. For the Meeks, the gift receipt may already be too late.
