Brad Pitt’s Cliff Booth has a new trailer and a less respectable job description. The latest look at The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth sends the former stuntman into the criminal corners of 1977 Los Angeles, with David Fincher directing Quentin Tarantino’s screenplay.
Eight years after the events of Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, Cliff earns money tending bar and working as a projectionist. His other line of business is fixing problems for Hollywood people who would rather keep those problems quiet.
A call from talent agent Karen Crosby, played by Elizabeth Debicki, introduces him to television star Charlie Peters. Scott Caan plays the actor, who prefers to perform his own stunts.
Charlie’s circle includes his wife Toni, played by Carla Gugino, and football champion turned actor Roderick “Hot Rod” Harrison, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Elsewhere, a pair of gangster brothers is making trouble across the city.
In Netflix’s accompanying interview, Tarantino says Pitt suggested Fincher for the directing job. Fincher, meanwhile, found a touchstone in Shampoo, the 1975 comedy about another complicated Los Angeles social circle. “It’s an LA story,” he says of his approach to Cliff’s next chapter.
The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth begins its IMAX release on 25 November, ahead of its Netflix debut on 23 December.
