Jacqueline Lentzou’s Venice prizewinner is heading to Canadian cinemas. Films We Like has acquired Canadian distribution rights to A Day in the Life of Jo: Chapter Phaedra, with a theatrical release planned for 2027.
The Greek filmmaker won the directing prize in Venice’s Orizzonti section this year for her second feature. The film subsequently screened at the New York Film Festival, with the distributor also listing appearances in London, Chicago and Busan.
Evita Andriopoulou plays Jo, a 15-year-old navigating school, family and a growing friendship with classmate Phaedra. Inspired by events in 2008, the story lets strange, dreamlike details creep into an apparently ordinary day before an incident changes its course. This is adolescence with something stranger stirring beneath the surface.
Lentzou previously directed Moon, 66 Questions. Announced on 27 October, the Canadian deal brings her follow-up to Films We Like, the independent and international film distributor founded by documentary filmmaker Ron Mann.
