Simon Pegg is heading into a smartphone apocalypse. The Mission: Impossible actor will star alongside Mark Duplass and Haley Joel Osment in dark comedy My Phone Died, Variety reports exclusively.
Pegg plays a Hollywood agent who survives when phones begin exploding worldwide. Duplass plays a client who is less fortunate; Osment’s character is an influencer and recovering alcoholic.
Hannah Leder and Alexandra Kotcheff will write, direct and co-star, with Hyde Park International taking international rights ahead of the American Film Market. Kotcheff plays an Amish woman drawn to Osment’s character; Leder plays a pregnant aspiring actress afraid to leave home.
The pair previously made The Planters without a crew, handling the camera, sound, design and performances themselves. Their planned six-week shoot eventually stretched to 127 days, they recalled in a joint essay for Talkhouse.
My Phone Died is scheduled to shoot in the northern spring of 2027.
