The Cadburys has its first public pictures, with filming recently completed in Birmingham. BritBox released the images on 7 October for a six-part drama about the family behind the chocolate business, previously announced as Chocolate Wars.
Toby Regbo and Harry Gilby play Richard and George Cadbury, brothers trying to rescue a failing cocoa company in the 1860s. One of George’s ambitions is to make solid eating chocolate. Getting the recipe right is only part of the problem: the brothers also have to learn to work together.
Jessica Barden plays their sister Maria, whose attraction to rival chocolatier Francis Fry, played by Ben Hardy, makes family loyalty rather less straightforward. The series draws on Deborah Cadbury’s book Chocolate Wars.
Fable Pictures produces with Alfresco Pictures, with Chloë Mi Lin Ewart leading the writing team. Commissioned by BritBox in North America with UKTV, The Cadburys is due on BritBox in 2027.
