Paramount+ has released the trailer for Who the Hell Is Hamish?, with Dominic Cooper playing Australian fraudster Hamish McLaren. All six episodes arrive worldwide on 10 December 2026.

After returning to Australia from Canada, McLaren sets his sights on Claire van der Boom’s Bec, a recently divorced mother of three sons with access to a substantial family trust. Hamish has charm to spare. His story is less convincing.

Bec’s growing suspicions uncover a pattern of deception stretching across continents. Paramount’s synopsis puts the suspected debt left behind at more than $70 million.

Inspired by The Australian’s true-crime podcast of the same name, the drama follows the real case and the victims who banded together to stop him. Those caught up in his schemes include single women, retirees and families protecting their savings.

Adam Zwar, whose credits include Austin and Mr Black, created and wrote the series. Jeffrey Walker, a director of The Artful Dodger and Apple Cider Vinegar, directs. The ensemble includes Yellowjackets’ Simone Kessell and Bay of Fires’ Marta Dusseldorp.

Hoodlum Entertainment and CBS Studios produced the Queensland-shot drama. Hoodlum chief executive Tracey Robertson said at its August filming-wrap announcement that the project had spent six years in development.

The series received major investment from Screen Australia, with further support from Screen Queensland and the City of Gold Coast.
