Jennifer’s Body director Karyn Kusama is taking on Mouthwashing, the psychological horror game that leaves five people stranded aboard a space freighter with dwindling supplies and nowhere to escape one another.

Sony Pictures has acquired the film rights from developer Wrong Organ and publisher Critical Reflex. Kusama is attached to direct, with Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay adapting the game for the screen.

The game follows the crew of the Tulpar after a catastrophic accident. Isolation, failing resources and mistrust turn an already desperate situation into something nastier. Space is not short of room; this ship very much is.

Scott Derrickson, C. Robert Cargill and Vince Cheng will produce through Crooked Highway.

The project reunites Kusama with Hay and Manfredi, her collaborators on the dinner-party nightmare The Invitation and Nicole Kidman thriller Destroyer. That makes the attraction clearer than the title might suggest: this is a story about people trapped together, and what happens when their ability to trust one another runs out.
