Button House has found a lively audience at the cinema. Ghosts: The Possession of Button House opened at number one in the UK and Ireland, taking £2,458,995 across its first weekend, according to the Film Distributors’ Association’s Comscore chart published on 26 October.
That put the British comedy ahead of another new arrival, DC’s Clayface, which collected £2,011,764. Ali G: Who Iz I? entered in third with £1,344,873, while Wildwood took fourth with £1,022,599. It was a weekend in which the top four places all went to newcomers.
For Ghosts, the result gives its move from television to film an encouraging start. The original cast returns for a story that finds the resident spirits adjusting to life without Alison and Mike, until eco-protesters and three troublesome teenagers disturb their afterlives.
The film opened through Lionsgate on 23 October, bringing the characters back after five BBC series. These are combined UK and Ireland takings, not separate national totals.
