HBO Max has released a surprise It: Welcome to Derry special for Halloween, taking the story hundreds of years before Pennywise.
A Story of Derry follows three youngsters into the Western Wood, where they encounter an ancient spirit. The streamer announced the previously unseen special on 31 October, saying it was available on HBO Max.
Kiawentiio, who plays Katara in Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender, is among the cast alongside Zahn McClarnon. Tazbah Chavez directs.
Welcome to Derry is itself a prequel to Andy Muschietti’s 2017 and 2019 It films, expanding the world of Stephen King’s novel. Its first season was set in 1962; the second will move back to the Great Depression in 1935.
