Melanie Lynskey will play convicted murderer Erin Patterson in Mushroom Murders, a six-part Australian drama commissioned by Paramount+ that she will also executive produce.

Announced on 28 October, the limited series follows the 97 days between the 2023 lunch at Patterson’s Victorian home and her arrest. The Yellowjackets actor leads a project created by writer Anya Beyersdorf, director Daina Reid and producer Deb Balderstone. Patterson has appealed her convictions.

Beyersdorf, whose credits include Fake and Apple Cider Vinegar, is writing alongside Dianne Taylor and Belinda Chayko. Reid, known for The Handmaid’s Tale and Run Rabbit Run, will direct all six episodes. Both are also executive producers.

Soapbox Pictures is producing. The production will shoot in Victoria with support from the Victorian Government through a Victorian Screen Incentive grant.

Paramount+ acquired the series from Federation International, which handles worldwide distribution. The casting and commission were unveiled as part of Paramount Australia’s upfront presentation, where the streamer set out its next slate of Australian originals and international dramas.
