Netflix has released a new trailer for Dolly Alderton’s Pride and Prejudice, putting Emma Corrin’s Elizabeth Bennet and Jack Lowden’s Mr Darcy at the centre of its next major period romance. The six-part Jane Austen adaptation arrives on 3 December.
Corrin, known for The Crown, and Slow Horses star Lowden lead a cast with plenty of experience in complicated families. Olivia Colman and Rufus Sewell play Mrs and Mr Bennet, while Fiona Shaw is Lady Catherine de Bourgh. Daryl McCormack plays Mr Bingley, Jamie Demetriou is Mr Collins and Louis Partridge takes on Mr Wickham.
Alderton wrote all six episodes, with Heartstopper director Euros Lyn behind the camera. Produced by Lookout Point, the series follows the five Bennet sisters as love, money and social expectations collide. Elizabeth’s first impression of Darcy is hardly a promising foundation for romance. Fortunately, Austen gave them time to reconsider.
The writer initially found the prospect intimidating. “It’s too much responsibility,” Alderton told Netflix’s Tudum of her first reaction, before embracing the chance to revisit the novel’s family embarrassment, misjudgements and romantic uncertainty.
The new trailer follows the character photographs unveiled at the Jane Austen Festival in Bath. December’s release date was announced there, rather than newly revealed with this footage.
