Martha Plimpton says Task is in the middle of filming its second season in Philadelphia, with Mark Ruffalo returning alongside a substantially changed ensemble.
In a 26 October interview, Plimpton described a more expansive story for the HBO crime drama. She returns as Kathleen McGinty, the FBI boss overseeing Ruffalo’s Tom Brandis.
“The story is just so rich and complicated and complex,” she said. Plimpton also pointed to the new actors joining the production, describing an ensemble that looks substantially different from the first season’s team.
Mahershala Ali is among the additions. Julianne Nicholson is also joining as Lori, the character she played in Mare of Easttown, bringing together two of creator Brad Ingelsby’s Pennsylvania-set dramas.
Ruffalo’s on-screen children, played by Silvia Dionicio and Andrew Russel, are returning too.
The first season followed Brandis as he assembled a task force to investigate violent robberies in Philadelphia’s working-class suburbs, putting him on a collision course with Tom Pelphrey’s Robbie Prendergrast.
